With over 23 crore tourists visiting the hill state over the past three years, the BJP government led by Pushkar Singh Dhami’s unrelenting efforts to boost tourism and pilgrimage in Uttarakhand are paying off, according to government officials who cited data from the tourism department.
The livelihoods of homestay, hotel, and dhaba operators, women’s self-help groups, and businesses working in the transportation industry have all benefited from this recent spike in tourism.
Uttarakhand’s tourism and pilgrimage industries continue to flourish as a result of the state government’s hard work.
The unique aspect is that Uttarakhand tourism has evolved into a multifaceted industry, with visitors increasingly visiting minor tourist spots in far-flung locations in addition to major cities and a few hill stations.
Alongside this, the hill state has seen a rise in both domestic and foreign visitor participation, encouraging adventure sports including mountaineering, rafting, trekking, and bungee jumping.
The benefits of tourism, which include lodging facilities, dining establishments, homestay operators, transportation entrepreneurs, women’s self-help groups, etc., are directly reaching lakhs of people in Uttarakhand as a result of the state’s tourism boom.
A direct result of the state’s growing tourism activity is the more than 6,000 homestay operators that already operate there.
The state has also seen a sharp rise in pilgrimage activity. Five million pilgrims have traveled to the sacred Char Dham Yatra alone so far this year.
The trekking path between Kedarnath and Yamunotri had around 4,300 horse and mule operators this year.
Winter travel is now also being promoted by the state administration.
In the border region of Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, pilgrimage and tourism have increased as a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the revered Adi Kailash.
Since the locals directly profit from tourism and pilgrimage, tourism is the main driver of Uttarakhand’s economy.
Consequently, the government of Uttarakhand is working to maintain pilgrimage and tourism throughout the year.
Uttarakhand’s pilgrimage, spirituality, and tourism have all increased as a result of Prime Minister Modi’s trips to the mountainous state.
To enhance visitor experiences and boost regional accessibility, the Uttarakhand government is funding digital solutions, public-private partnerships, and tourism infrastructure.
The state is establishing itself as a global leader in tourism innovation and sustainable growth through initiatives including the introduction of digital tourist platforms and enhanced transportation systems.
Additionally, collaborations with foreign airlines and tour companies are assisting in the growth of foreign travel to Uttarakhand, especially from important markets in Asia and Europe.
