In Johannesburg, PM Modi meets with local leaders and calls for the advancement of Indian culture

During his visit to Johannesburg for the G20 Leaders’ Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a significant conversation with the leaders of well-known Indian community organizations in South Africa.

The Prime Minister said, “Interacted with members of the Indian community based in South Africa who are actively working with different community organizations,” in a post on X. They expressed their experiences on a range of topics and expressed gratitude for India’s advancements in a number of areas. encouraged them to maintain the pace at which they are strengthening interpersonal connections. Additionally, they were urged to encourage more South Africans to participate in the Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) Quiz and promote Indian culture, particularly yoga and Ayurveda.

The meeting’s main objectives were to expand the relationship between India and the thriving Indian diaspora in the area, strengthen cultural linkages, and support community-led initiatives.

Community members praised the Prime Minister’s leadership and vision. “Absolutely, it was a very invigorating meeting where PM Modi continues to inspire us with his leadership,” stated Swami Acharya following his encounter with the prime minister.

“It was a very good meeting,” said spiritual teacher Swami Abhedananda of Chinmaya Mission South Africa. I had a nice time talking to him honestly; all of the conversations were enjoyable.

“It was really an honor and privilege to meet Modi ji,” a community leader said, highlighting some of the major topics covered. Modi ji essentially emphasized three issues during the group discussion. “Are we doing anything for vernacular languages?” he inquired. Then he asked what we could do to promote tourism in India, emphasizing that since there are 1.8 million people living here, we can make a significant impact if we take responsibility for promoting tourism with a huge population. Third, he has a desire that South Africans with six-seven generations of Indian ancestry can advance.

“While interacting with the Indian community in South Africa, received a Kalash from the Chinmaya Mission, consisting of Shree Anna or millets from both South Africa and India,” PM Modi said in another post about a memorable moment from the encounter. This will be installed in Durban’s Annapoorna Devi Temple.

In an effort to improve diaspora involvement, the Prime Minister also met the winners of the Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) Quiz.

“Met the winners of the Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) Quiz in South Africa,” he wrote. Members of our diaspora are encouraged to learn more about India’s history, culture, and other topics by taking this quiz. It genuinely improves ties between our diaspora and India.

India’s strong cultural and emotional ties to the Indian community in South Africa were highlighted by PM Modi’s engagements in Johannesburg, which reaffirmed the nation’s dedication to fostering these relationships.

The G20 Leaders’ Summit is scheduled for November 22–23 in Johannesburg. PM Modi is anticipated to have a number of bilateral talks with some of the world leaders in Johannesburg on the fringes of the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
