When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the famous Udupi Sri Krishna Math on Friday, he will receive a customary greeting and take part in the “Laksha Kantha Gita” public chanting performance.
On Friday morning, the Prime Minister will be formally welcomed to the temple. He will go to Madhwa Sarovara, perform a unique puja, and receive the deity’s darshan. According to Paryaya Puttige Mutt seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami on Thursday, he will then proceed to the location where more than a lakh devotees will recite Bhagavad Gita shlokas.
The Prime Minister would present the “Kanaka Kavacha” (golden covering) for the celestial “Kanakana Kindi” at the mutt, he added.
Recall that the Udupi Kanakana Kindi narrative describes how the poet-saint Kanakadasa, who lived in the 16th century, was sent away from the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple due to his low caste. His fervent devotion caused the Lord Krishna idol in the temple to mysteriously turn to face him while he prayed from outside.
Kanakadasa was able to glimpse the god through a fracture in the wall, which was eventually transformed into a little window known as Kanakana Kindi.
“The mutt will offer Suwarna Thirta Mantapa to the deity through PM Narendra Modi,” stated Seer Sugunendra Tirtha Swami. Sarvagnya Peeta, the goshala, and the new Gita Mandira will be visited by the prime minister. He will engage with all of the Ashta Mutts’ seers in the Chandrashale and obtain their blessings. He has said that he would want to try a few Udupi specialties, such as “patrode.”
Devotees will start reciting Bhagavad Gita shlokas at nine in the morning, according to the seer. Slokas from Chapter 15, Purushottama Yoga, will be read upon the Prime Minister’s arrival at the event site, followed by the final ten shlokas of the concluding chapter. The recitation will be joined virtually by devotees from all around the nation and the world. Food will be given to everyone who physically participates in the program. By Friday at 8 a.m., all of the Krishna Mutt’s poojas will be finished.
According to an official announcement, “On November 28, 2025, the holy temple town of Udupi in the coastal region is ready to witness an extraordinary spiritual and cultural moment.” After arriving at the famous Udupi Sri Krishna Math, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the “Laksha Kantha Gita” major program, in which one lakh individuals will collectively recite passages from the Bhagavad Gita.
“This visit represents India’s ageless civilization, the Gita’s everlasting message, and the height of religious expression by fusing devotion, tradition, and widespread public participation. Prime Minister Modi will give special prayers and have darshan in the sanctum of the eight-century-old Sri Krishna temple, which is venerated by millions of people worldwide, the statement continued.
“Prime Minister Modi will take part in the historic Gita chanting event following the temple visit, where over a lakh participants—students, monks, professors, and people from all walks of life—will repeat the Bhagavad Gita in unison. He will speak to the assembly as well.
In keeping with Madhvacharya’s legacy, Paryaya Puttige Math seer Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji has named his historic fourth Paryaya the ‘Vishwa Gita Paryaya’ and initiated a number of noteworthy projects that have attracted devotees from all over the world. These include “Koti Gita Lekhana Yajna,” a massive initiative where devotees from all over the world learn, write, and dedicate verses of the Gita to the lotus feet of Lord Krishna, and “Akhanda Udayastamana Gita Parayana,” which involves chanting the Gita continuously from sunrise to sunset for two years, according to the statement.
“Paryaya Puttige Sri Krishna Math has organized the Laksha Kantha Gita Parayana program in a magnificent manner as part of this tradition. In addition to serving as a potent symbol of India’s unity and shared devotion, this massive event seeks to encourage society to uphold the Gita’s teachings on dharma, compassion, and bravery. The announcement further stated that devotees are excited to see the Prime Minister and hear the Gita being chanted.
Public access to Sri Krishna Math will be restricted on Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. According to the announcement, the Math administration has asked devotees to cooperate during the darshan times and to follow the updated schedule.
