In Arunachal Pradesh’s local body elections, which took place on December 15, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a resounding majority of seats in the Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats, according to officials on Sunday.
By winning 14 of the 20 wards in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) elections, the BJP also achieved a resounding victory. In the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC), however, the regional People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) won five of the eight seats, followed by the BJP with two and an Independent with one. In both the IMC and PMC elections, the opposition Congress was unable to secure a single seat.
The BJP’s outstanding results in the local body elections were praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The people of Arunachal Pradesh show unwavering support for the politics of good governance,” he wrote in a post on X. I express my gratitude to the people of Arunachal Pradesh for their love for the BJP.
This makes us more determined to continue working toward the transformation of the state. The Prime Minister said, “I am grateful to the BJP karyakartas for their tireless labor among the people.
Additionally, Chief Minister Pema Khandu thanked voters for the party’s overwhelming win.

In a statement, Khandu expressed his sincere gratitude to our devoted party karyakartas at all levels for their unwavering dedication and hard work, which enabled this historic triumph.
Along with state party president Kaling Moyong, Itanagar MLA Techi Kasso, and party employees, Khandu claimed to have attended the victory celebrations at the state BJP office in Itanagar, where newly elected corporators and Zilla Parishad Members (ZPMs) from Itanagar-Naharlagun were congratulated.
The Chief Minister also expressed gratitude to the State Election Commission (SEC) for ensuring that the polls were conducted peacefully and smoothly in spite of the state’s remote location and challenging topography. In a different post, he expressed his “sincere gratitude to State Election Commissioner Rinchin Tashi and the entire SEC team.”
The BJP won 170 of the 245 Zilla Parishad seats, including 59 that were not contested, according to the final results released by the SEC late on Sunday night, demonstrating its unquestionable domination at the district-level local councils.
With 28 seats, the PPA became the second-largest party, while the Congress won seven.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s National People’s Party (NPP) won five seats, including one that was not contested, while Independent and other candidates won twenty-three.
The BJP demonstrated its strong grassroots presence by winning 6,085 of the 8,208 seats in the Gram Panchayat elections, including 5,211 uncontested victories. Independents won 627 seats, 280 of which were uncontested, while the PPA won 648 seats, 386 of which were uncontested.

The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) won 27 seats, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won one, and the NPP won 160 seats, including 81 that were not contested.
According to SEC Secretary Taru Talo, 45 Gram Panchayat seats remained unfilled for a variety of reasons, including a lack of nominations, the rejection of candidates, or the countermanding of polls. The outcomes in 47 Gram Panchayat seats were determined by drawing lots after candidates received an equal number of votes.
State BJP president Kaling Moyong told party members at the BJP headquarters in Itanagar that the election results demonstrated the public’s sustained confidence in the party’s development-oriented rule.
He continued by saying that the electorate had shown support for the incumbent under Chief Minister Khandu’s third consecutive BJP government, affirming the party’s pro-people policies and open governance.
