In a crucial Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 encounter at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, the Rajasthan Royals defeated the Mumbai Indians with a score of 205/8 because to excellent rearguard play from their lower-order batting.
Rajasthan, who must win their final league game in order to qualify for the playoffs, attained a difficult target, but their innings, which lurched from one wicket to another in hot and muggy conditions, lacked a decisive blow.
The RR innings, which had started at 54/3 following the Power-play, faltered in the middle overs, managing only 46/1 in the overs between 7 and 11 and 48/2 in the subsequent set of four from 12 to 16. But in the final five overs, their lower order crushed 73 runs to surpass 200.
Will Jacks (1-12), AM Ghazanfar (1-45), and Corbin Bosch (1-33) each took a wicket in MI’s excellent bowling effort, while Deepak Chahar, who took Jasprit Bumrah’s position in the playing XI, and Shardul Thakur both took two wickets.
RR got off to a fast start after being asked to bat first, with Yashasvi Jaiswal hammering Deepak Chahar for sixes in each of his opening two overs. Will Jacks dived over the rope and flipped it back for a single after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi almost hit the first six of the game.
Jaiswal (27 off 17) played one shot too many and died after mistiming a big one against a well-pitched ball outside the off by Will Jacks and spooning it straight to point, where Corbin Bosch gleefully pouched it. Jaiswal survived a huge shout for lbw after the TV official went with “umpire’s call” on a MI review.
Sooryavanshi (4) was grabbed by Naman Dhir off Chahar after falling into inertia and suffering while attempting to break free. Ryan Parag, the captain of Rajasthan, hit two fours and a six for an 8-ball 14 to put them over fifty. However, he died on the final ball of Power-play, pushing AM Ghazanfar to backward point, where Tilak Varma made an easy catch, leaving the Royals struggling at 54/3.
Before the Sri Lankan all-rounder, who hit three huge sixes, ran himself out for 29 off 15 balls, Dhruv Jurel and Dasun Shanaka staged a mini-rescue act, taking the winner of the first IPL to 99. Soon after, Jurel was dismissed by a brilliant yorker from Bosch, and Rajasthan’s problems persisted as they fell to 119/5 in the thirteenth over. For his 26-ball 38, Jurel hit three fours, two off consecutive deliveries from Ghazanfar, and two sixes.
Donovan Ferreira (16) hit sixes against Chahar and Raghu Sharma, but he quickly returned to the dugout. After getting swung over for a six, Chahar had the last laugh when Bosch caught him off a short, sluggish, and wide delivery on the ball.
In his 15-ball 32 cameo, Jofra Archer hit two sixes and a four, but Shardul Thakur’s double-wicket over put RR in danger. As RR surpassed the 200-run threshold, Ravindra Jadeja, an Impact substitute, hit two boundaries in his 11-ball 19 and Nandre Burger hit his first T20 six in his 3-ball 10.
However, given the Mumbai Indians‘ potent batting lineup, that could not be sufficient in the end because conditions are predicted to improve in the second innings.
