Ministers from the IBSA group, which includes India, Brazil, and South Africa, convened here on Thursday to discuss Security Council reforms, which are becoming increasingly urgent.
Following his meeting with Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and South Africa’s International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted on X, “We have convergent views on UN system and Security Council reforms. Our consultations should intensify as these debates become more pressing.”
In his X post, Lamola wrote, “It was a pleasure meeting my counterpart from India, Dr SJaishankar, at the IBSA Ministerial Meeting.”
In his tweet, FM Jaishankar said, “IBSA nations participate in and shape ongoing global discourses on development, SDGs [UN’s Sustainable Development Goals], poverty eradication, multilateralism, and South-South cooperation.”
IBSA, which brings together three major multi-ethnic democracies from three continents, was founded in 2024 to collaborate on climate change, terrorism, international governance, and development challenges.
It has also established the IBSA Fund, which will provide development assistance to other Global South countries.
The foundation has allocated $46.7 million to 42 projects in 35 countries.
