Speaking with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him on his party’s overwhelming win in the general election on Saturday.

“I personally congratulated my buddy Anthony Albanese on his party’s historic victory over the phone. Following the phone conversation, PM Modi wrote on X, “We decided to work together with renewed vigor to advance the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and explore new areas of cooperation.”

On Saturday, Prime Minister Modi congratulated Albanese on Labor’s overwhelming victory, which saw the party secure 92 seats in the lower house—just the third time in the nation’s history that a party has won more than 90 seats.

“Congratulations, Anthony Albanese, on your overwhelming win and reappointment as Australia’s prime minister! This strong directive demonstrates the Australian people’s continued confidence in your leadership. PM Modi wrote on X, “I am eager to collaborate with you to further strengthen the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and pursue our common goal of peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.

On Monday, Albanese stated that his first foreign travel in his second term as prime minister will be to Indonesia. He also had meetings with US President Donald Trump, with the main topic of discussion being tariffs.

Ahead of the Australia-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’s fifth anniversary in 2025, Prime Minister Modi and his Australian counterpart met during the Group of 20 (G20) Summit in Rio de Janeiro last November. It was also the second Australia-India Annual Summit.

In a number of key areas, such as climate change and renewable energy, trade and investment, defense and security, education and research, skills, mobility, science and technology, regional and multilateral cooperation, community and cultural ties, and people-to-people ties, both prime ministers praised the noteworthy advancements made in fortifying bilateral ties.

In addition to reflecting on their common interests in the region and reaffirming their commitment to further collaboration, they expressed satisfaction that increased bilateral engagement has benefited both countries as well as the region at large.

Both presidents have emphasized the potential for collaboration and complementarity between “Make in India” and “Future Made in Australia,” which might help guarantee our future prosperity in a changing world, unlock economic development, and create new jobs.

Along with Japan and the United States, the Quad grouping also includes Australia and India.
