With the Narendra Modi government implementing several programs to strengthen Nari Shakti, women have become important forces behind the nation’s advancement during the past 11 years, according to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday.
The Finance Minister highlighted “11 years of Sashakt Nari” and stated that women held 55.7% of accounts under the PM Jan Dhan Yojna, the largest financial inclusion program in the world, demonstrating their empowerment at the local level.
She also mentioned that women currently make up 68% of MUDRA loan recipients nationally. Thousands of women are now able to start their own businesses and follow their aspirations on their own thanks to these loans.
In addition, women make up 74% of the beneficiaries of the Start-Up India entrepreneurs program. In addition, she stated that women own 73% of the homes under the PMAY (Gramin) program for the impoverished.
The Ujjwala Yojana has provided 10 crore LPG connections to low-income women, the Finance Minister added. They have really benefited from these, which have made their lives easier and had positive health effects. The toxic smoke from wood and other fuels, such cow dung, that were formerly utilized for cooking has been removed from them.
As seen by the fact that the average bank balance per account climbed from Rs 1,065 in March 2015 to Rs 4,352 today, the Jan Dhan plan has been a tremendous success in financial inclusion. According to her, about 80% of the accounts are active.
Up to 66.6% of Jan Dhan accounts were opened in rural and semi-urban areas, while women account holders make up 29.56 crore (55.7%) of the total.
A lot of people utilize these accounts. They are also receiving deposits from people. Only 8.4% of the accounts have zero balance, despite the fact that this method permits such accounts.
The Modi government set out to provide banking and financial services to all citizens when it initially took office almost ten years ago. In order to do this, the “Pradhanmantri Jan Dhan Yojana,” which was introduced on August 28, 2014, created zero balance bank accounts in the banks for the poorest of the poor.
