When South Africa won the 2025 ICC World Test Championship, Dale Steyn was ecstatic, saying he was happy that the team had finally taken home a trophy they had been chasing for a long time.

The Proteas defeated Australia by five wickets and won a major worldwide ICC trophy at the Lord’s, ending 27 years of heartache in big cricket competitions. Aiden Markram’s 136 and captain Temba Bavuma’s 66 enabled South Africa to chase down 282.

“I thought that South Africa also benefited from the support at Lord’s, particularly from the English supporters.” The Ashes rivalry may have played a role, but that support was helpful. The team performed exceptionally well in this huge game. The best players stepped up when it counted in this flawlessly organized Test match.

Mitchell Starc with runs and wickets, Aiden Markram with late contributions, Temba Bavuma leading the team home, Pat Cummins providing too, and KG Rabada with the wickets. On the Cricket Live show, JioStar expert Steyn remarked, “I’m just thrilled for South Africa — they’ve finally won a trophy they’ve been chasing for a long time. It was a fantastic final.”

The legendary fast bowler also commended South Africa’s tenacity and fortitude in handling a formidable Australian team. “South Africa knew from the beginning of this World Test Championship cycle that they needed to win a specific number of games to advance to the final — and they succeeded, winning seven straight games against all opposition.”

Anyone who has played Test cricket can tell you that winning even one Test match is never simple, regardless of the opponent. It’s tremendous to win seven straight, go to the final, and then cross the finish line today.

These two teams are enormous. For years, they had been bitter enemies. Every South African cricket player holds Australia in high regard for everything they have accomplished, particularly their world championships. Thus, South Africa was aware that this would be one of their most difficult tests,” he explained.

Matthew Hayden, a former opener for Australia, commended South Africa for their crucial breakthroughs that helped them win the title. “Australian cricket’s history, including its outcomes and performances at ICC events, demonstrates how well this side performs on a global scale. Since Australia has dominated here for around 22 years, I honestly can’t even recall the last time they lost at Lord’s.

Therefore, this outcome is outstanding for this South African team, which is comparatively inexperienced in comparison to Australia at this point in the World Test Championship cycle. Consider Lungi Ngidi, who was essentially unplayable in the first inning before coming in and getting Steve Smith out when it counted most.

“That was a big moment. From there, South Africa simply kept winning because Smith is such a legendary part of the Australian establishment. “Finding a way is what finals are all about,” he said.
