Along with talking about India’s economic growth trajectory over the past ten years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides attended a business roundtable event where they engaged with top CEOs to strengthen strategic partnerships in a number of sectors.

On Sunday (local time), PM Modi posted on his official X account, saying: “Improving business connections! In an effort to strengthen business ties between India and Cyprus, President Nikos Christodoulides and I spoke with prominent CEOs. There is enormous promise in fields like innovation, energy, technology, and more. I also discussed India’s reform trend during the past ten years.

“Today, we are building more bridges; we are deepening and expanding economic cooperation between Cyprus and India,” the president of Cyprus stated in a post on X earlier on Sunday. We are stepping into a new age of strategic cooperation together, one that is based on mutual trust and principles, propelled by innovation and motivated by both the huge vista that lies ahead of us and our rich historical adventure. Together, India and Cyprus convey a powerful message of optimism while also promoting wealth and cooperation.

In a different post on X, the president of Cyprus added, “Roundtable discussion with the Indian Prime Minister and members of the Cyprus and Indian business communities.”

Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs, wrote on X earlier on Sunday: “Further cementing investment, technology & business linkages.” Leading business leaders from Cyprus and Indian enterprises attended a business roundtable that was addressed by PM @narendramodi and President @Christodulides. In the areas of trade, investment, financial services, fintech, start-up, innovation, AI, IT, logistics, defense, connectivity, shipping, and mobility, the leaders demanded the development of stronger economic relations.

The President of Cyprus also greeted PM Modi warmly in a post on X.

He described it as a “historic visit” that would usher in a new era in the partnership between Cyprus and India.

“Hello, Prime Minister @narendramodi of Cyprus! Here, at the entrance to the Mediterranean and the southeast border of the EU. A new chapter in an unbounded strategic collaboration, a historic visit. We pledge to progress, change, and thrive more. India, Cyprus, and the EU together.

After arriving in Lacarna, EAM Jaishankar met with Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and emphasized how PM Modi’s visit would strengthen the long-standing bilateral ties.

“It was a pleasure to meet FM @ckombos of Cyprus upon my arrival in Larnaca,” he tweeted on X. I’m convinced that PM @narendramodi’s trip to Cyprus would strengthen the India-EU collaboration and our historic bilateral ties.”

The first Indian prime minister to visit the island nation in almost 20 years, Prime Minister Modi landed in Cyprus on Sunday.

The visit, which was welcomed with ceremonial honors at Larnaca International Airport by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, marked a resurgence of Indo-Cypriot ties as both countries pledged to further collaborate in the areas of trade, technology, education, and cultural exchange.

When Prime Minister Modi visited the Indian diaspora in Cyprus, they enthusiastically chanted “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” demonstrating the visit’s emotional impact.

A yellow placard with the words “Jai Hind, Operation Sindoor, Justice is Served,” referring to India’s recent counterterrorism operation, was notably displayed by one participant.

The Cyprus leg of Prime Minister Modi’s three-nation tour, which comes before his attendance at the G7 Summit in Canada, underscores the strategic significance of fostering long-standing relations while establishing new avenues for collaboration as India seeks to broaden its global reach.

The commitment to a collaboration “that knows no limits” was reiterated by Cyprus.

On his official X account, Prime Minister Modi posted a video of the incident.

Cyprus is getting ready to take over as EU Council president in early 2026, so the visit comes at a crucial moment.

The participation of PM Modi demonstrates India’s determination to deepen its ties with the European Union and the Mediterranean area.

In his speech, Prime Minister Modi thanked everyone for the cordial welcome and emphasized the two nations’ shared democratic principles and historical connections.

The Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, Cyprus’s highest civilian honor, will be presented to PM Modi during his two-day visit, along with bilateral discussions with President Christodoulides and a business roundtable in Limassol.

Cyprus is attempting to establish itself as a financial link between Europe and South Asia with its recent decision to open a Eurobank representative office in Mumbai.

There are geopolitical overtones to the visit as well.

Cyprus has continuously backed India’s position on international matters, such as its denunciation of terrorism that crosses international borders.

Cyprus has become a dependable ally, supporting India’s goals at forums like the UN, in contrast to Turkey’s recent criticism of India’s internal policies.

The visit was heralded by the local media as a landmark in bilateral diplomacy, highlighting its strategic and symbolic significance.

Cypriot analysts have presented PM Modi’s trip as a watershed in Mediterranean-Asian relations as he gets ready to leave for the G7 Summit in Canada.

At the request of President Nicos Christodoulides, PM Modi is traveling to Cyprus with a sizable delegation of about 100 officials.
