The nation’s highest honor, the “Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana,” was given to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday in appreciation of his “distinguished statesmanship and influential global leadership”.
Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama presented the award to PM Modi.
As said in an X post, the Prime Minister expressed his honor at being named “The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana.”
“A demonstration of the strong and enduring India-Ghana relationship. ‘The Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’ was bestowed to PM @narendramodi by President @JDMahama. Ghana’s national honor was dedicated to the 1.4 billion Indians and the long-standing and enduring India-Ghana relationship. In a post on X, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian government and people for this extraordinary honor.
“It is appropriate that PM @narendramodi has been named a ‘Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana,’ Ghana’s national honor. It is a testament to his unwavering efforts to elevate the Global South’s voice. Additionally, it’s evidence of our friendship and collaboration with Ghana,” EAM Jaishankar stated in a post on X.
According to an official release from the MEA, Prime Minister Modi accepted the award on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians and dedicated it to the country’s cultural traditions and variety, the aspirations of its youth, and the historical connections between Ghana and India.
For this unique act, the Prime Minister praised the Ghanaian people and government.
According to the MEA statement, Prime Minister Modi stated that the award strengthens the friendship between the two nations and gives him additional responsibility to promote and develop bilateral ties, noting that the two nations’ shared democratic values and traditions would continue to foster the partnership.
The Prime Minister confirmed that he was sure his historic state visit to Ghana will give India-Ghana relations a boost.
Following extensive discussions between PM Modi and President Mahama, India and Ghana advanced their relationship to the point of full collaboration.
On the first stop of his five-nation tour, the prime minister is in Ghana.
This is India’s first prime ministerial visit to Ghana in thirty years.
