India will commemorate the nation’s transition from satellites to human spaceflight on Saturday by celebrating the second National Space Day.

In an X post, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that India made history on August 23 by being the fourth country to land on the moon and the first at its south pole, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This event served as inspiration for the future.

“We honor India’s journey from satellites to human spaceflight and our vision of infinite possibilities as we celebrate the 2nd National Space Day tomorrow,” the minister continued.

India’s space industry is expected to contribute significantly to the advancement of the nation’s economic and technological development. The Indian government established the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) and liberalized the Indian space industry with the historic space reforms of 2020.

The number of registered space start-ups has increased dramatically to over 300 after the announcement of space sector reforms in 2020.

Two successful sub-orbital missions by Indian space start-ups were also made possible by IN-SPACe in November 2022 and May 2024, respectively. Furthermore, six NGEs have shown their capability by launching fourteen satellites into orbit.

According to V. Narayanan, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the first uncrewed mission of the Gaganyaan human spaceflight program, G1, is prepared for launch with the half-humanoid robot, Vyommitra, and the launch is anticipated in December.

He praised IAF Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla for his successful voyage to the International Space Station, the first ever by an Indian, during a press briefing in the nation’s capital on Friday. Among the astronauts chosen for the crewed Gaganyaan mission is Shukla.

The newly launched NASA ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar Satellite (NISAR) “is healthy and all systems are working well,” he continued.
