Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, will join Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday in Supaul, Bihar, for the ongoing Voter Adhikar Yatra (Voter Rights Yatra).
With a strong push from top Congress and opposition leaders, the Yatra, which is a part of the INDIA bloc’s state-wide campaign, aims to increase awareness about election rights and alleged vote intimidation.
At eight in the morning, Rahul Gandhi will set out on the day’s Yatra from Supaul City’s Hussain Chowk. His motorcade will next go by Lohia Nagar Chowk, Gandhi Maidan, and Mahavir Chowk before arriving at Degree College Chowk.
It is anticipated that many party members and sympathizers from nearby districts like Saharsa and Madhepura will join.
Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the opposition in the Bihar Assembly, and Mukesh Sahni, the leader of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), will also take part in the Yatra’s Supaul leg. Their participation highlights the concerted attempt by the INDI alliance to put pressure on the ruling NDA in the run-up to the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
Priyanka Gandhi will visit Bihar on August 26 and 27, according to confirmation from K.C. Venugopal, General Secretary (Organisation) of the All India Congress Committee. She is expected to visit the Janaki Temple in Sitamarhi tomorrow to offer prayers and will take part in important ceremonies in Supaul today.
Since it started earlier this month, the Voter Adhikar Yatra has made considerable progress throughout Bihar. Rahul Gandhi garnered a lot of attention on Sunday when he rode a Royal Enfield motorcycle for two kilometers with BPCC president Rajesh Ram riding in his pillion during the Seemanchal leg of the Yatra.
On the Purnea-Araria route, he also made a stop at a roadside dhaba close to Jalalgarh, where he had tea with the villagers.
The Congress-led campaign refers to the Yatra as a “battle to protect electoral rights” in an effort to draw attention to concerns of democratic accountability and voter suppression.
