At the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, Virat Kohli made a spectacular comeback to action, scoring a century in the first ODI against South Africa. He claimed that his typical practices of physical fitness and visualization helped him land on his feet.
Virat Kohli’s outstanding century (135 off 120 balls) and crucial fifties from Rohit Sharma (57, 51b) and K.L. Rahul (60, 56b) propelled India’s impressive first innings total.
India scored a staggering 398/8 in 50 overs as the seasoned duo put up a fluid 136-run partnership, relieving the burden following the early loss. Then, with the help of Corbin Bosch (67, 51b), Marco Jansen (70, 39b), and Matthew Breetzke (72, 80b), they defeated South Africa by 17 runs.
However, Virat Kohli was the center of attention; he hit seven sixes and eleven boundaries. “Entering the game in that manner today was quite pleasant. Before slowing down, the pitch performed fairly well for 20 to 25 overs. All I wanted to do was play cricket and have fun with the ball. “It was about having fun, and when you get a start, the experience kicks in, and you’re able to build an innings,” stated Kohli, who was named Player of the Match.
According to Kohli, he doesn’t think it’s necessary to prepare extensively before a series.
“I’ve never been a big fan of preparation. My entire cricket career has been mental. I put in a lot of physical effort, and it’s beneficial if you can picture yourself hitting and feeling fantastic. After the game, Kohli remarked, “I wanted to get hold of conditions in Ranchi.”
He claimed that by visualizing the match, he was able to prepare for his first ODI in a few months.
“I frequently visualize the game. I know I can unwind and play out there if I see myself being sharp and intense when I think about the game. I’ve played about 300 ODI matches and a lot of cricket; you know you’re good if you can hit balls in practice and bat for an hour or two in the nets. You should play more in the nets if you’re not playing well. Apart than that, it’s about enjoying the game and being psychologically prepared,” Kohli stated.
