During his two-day visit to Manipur, President Droupadi Murmu will honor the state’s courageous female warriors on Friday as part of the 86th Nupi Lal Day celebration.

The President will pay her homage to the women who spearheaded historic resistance activities against British colonial rule in 1904 and 1939 at the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex in Imphal.

These movements—collectively referred to as Nupi Lal—remain potent representations of the bravery, leadership, and collective fight of Manipuri women.

President Murmu will proceed to Senapati district, a significant Naga-inhabited area, after the tribute event in Imphal, where she is expected to speak at a public gathering.

She will lay the foundation stones for a number of development projects and launch a number of initiatives meant to improve the district’s socioeconomic development and infrastructure.

Prior to the high-profile visit, extensive preparations have been made throughout Imphal since Wednesday. The roughly 7-kilometer length between Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex has been renovated, painted, and embellished with banners, flags, and other items on both sides. To welcome the President’s convoy, large welcome hoardings have also been erected along the road.

The second significant high-level visit to Manipur in the last three months was made by President Murmu.

During his September 13 visit to the state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the Union government’s dedication to bolstering Manipur as part of the goal for Viksit Bharat.

The Prime Minister opened 17 infrastructure projects totaling Rs 1,200 crore during the tour, including the SEZ building in Mantripukhri, the Civil Secretariat, the Police Headquarters, and new Manipur Bhawans in Delhi and Kolkata. Additionally, he set the groundwork for 19 other projects totaling Rs 7,300 crore, which address a wide range of district-specific developmental needs.

President Murmu is anticipated to emphasize the heritage of the Manipuri women’s resistance movements and reaffirm the Center’s continued commitment to the state’s development, unity, and peace restoration during his visit today.
