In honor of World Food Safety Day on Saturday, Union Health Minister JP Nadda stated that a focus on food safety is crucial to safeguarding health and wellbeing.

In order to prevent, identify, and address the risks to public health posed by contaminated food, June 7 is designated as World Food Safety Day every year.

The subject for this year is “Food safety: science in action,” which highlights the need of applying scientific understanding to prevent disease, save money, and save lives.

“We unite on this World Food Safety Day to increase awareness of the critical role that safe and sanitary food plays in protecting health and lowering the incidence of foodborne illnesses. The fuel that keeps us going each day is food. In a post on social networking platform X, Nadda stated, “By concentrating on food safety, we’re safeguarding our health and the welfare of families everywhere.”

The topic for this year, he continued, “celebrates how science and technology are safeguarding our food quality and safety at every stage.”

According to a post on X by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), “science plays a monumental role in ensuring the food on your plate is safe.”

“The power of science helps us make educated decisions, from quality testing labs to research that affects food regulations. “Madly choose, eat safely!” it continued.

Over 200 diseases can result from consuming food tainted with germs, viruses, parasites, or chemicals like heavy metals, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The World Health Organization advises people to keep food clean, keep raw and cooked food separate, prepare food thoroughly, store food at safe temperatures, and use safe raw materials and water when preparing food.

“Let’s pledge to safe food practices that safeguard health and avert foodborne illnesses on World Food Safety Day. According to Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of Food and Public Distribution, “safe food is everyone’s responsibility and the foundation of a healthier, stronger, and safer tomorrow,” on X.
